I am an SpR in urology, currently out-of-programme to pursue full-time research. I have been involved with the ISRC since 2018, and am the lead of the RETAINER 1 (RETention of urine After INguinal hernia Elective Repair) international study. During this period I have developed a great appreciation for both trainee-led initiatives and for the power of collaboration within research.
It was a privilege to be elected co-chair of the ISRC in 2022, gaining the opportunity to continue the incredible work of the collaborative’s founding members and previous leaders. I hope to work with all committee members to continue to build a dynamic and inclusive trainee research network across the island of Ireland, with global links. I am keen to foster further participation from a diverse range of surgical specialties and to engage in expansion of our methodological capabilities to include clinical trials and sound qualitative research design.
