Matt is a General Surgery Trainee and ISRC Committee Member currently working in University Hospital Limerick. His PhD, titled ‘Molecular Profiling and Genomic Substratification to Aid Therapeutic Decision Making in Cancer’, was awarded from the University of Galway in 2022, prior to his commencement of formal surgical training. Matt has been awarded Plenary session winners medals at the Sir Peter Freyer Symposium in both 2022 and 2023 and was a recipient of the Owen Wangensteen Excellence in Research Award at the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress in San Diego in 2022 for work arising during his PhD. Matt has contributed significantly to the scientific literature having authored 120 research scientific manuscripts and is a current reviewer for surgical several journals, including the International Journal of Surgery, BJS, and Surgical Oncology.
Matt believes that the Island of Ireland represents an excellent opportunity for the meaningful collaboration of clinical and translational research across several surgical disciplines, due to its relatively small size and the familiarity among our trainees and consultant colleagues. Matt is committed to ensuring the ongoing success of the ISRC through ensuring the provision of further high quality, collaborative studies.
